A gifted artist, drummer, percussionist, singer, songwriter, composer and producer, Ras shares his talent and worldly visions openly through heart and music. His deeply honest, rich and earthy lyrics, infectious beats and uplifting rhythms have captivated audiences worldwide. A humble warrior, Ras shares messages of truth and love with powerful and thought provoking lyrics to give hope to the world through his music and spiritual wisdom.
Born Richard Ekow Minano, Ras became widely known as `Baahey Otte’ meaning `The Prophet’ during his years living in the ghettos of Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Surrounded by poverty, Ras manifest an unyielding belief in Jah Rastafari and a profound love for humanity that attracted people to him for wisdom, guidance & leadership. From drumming in church as a young boy, Ras has gone on to dedicate his life to music and drumming, using his gift as a tool for the development, inner connection and healing for humankind.
In 2006, Ras Minano formed The Hope of Africa Band with a vision of collective empowerment to raise consciousness and give hope for humanity. He shared this vision by inviting other talented Ghanaian musicians to join him. Together they performed at beach resorts throughout Accra captivating audiences. Momentum and popularity for the band grew and The Hope of Africa Band received regular invitations to perform at many high profile events notably, the highly acclaimed 2012 Ghana Peace Concert where, the single, ‘ Stop the War’ was released receiving a standing ovation.

During his years of living in Ghana Ras collaborated with other talented musicians that included: Adane Best, Amarh Pino and the Ozimzim Band, Classic Handles, Feeling Brothers, King David, Charles Robert Quaye (Remedy), Samuel Antwi, Obose, Angel Lopa, Sammy Snuki, Bright, Asabre Quaye, Adwoa Okorie (Ziggy), Mr Roy and Frank Kissi.
Ras life journey is inspired by His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie, Osagyefo dr Kwame Nkrumah, Marcus Garvey and I and I Creation Papa Jah. Musically, Ras found inspiration from world renowned musicians the likes of Joseph Hills and the group Culture, Tony Allen drummer of Afrobeats Master Fela Kuti, Master Drummer Johnny Kwesi Annan, Tarrus Riley, Morgan Heritage Band Roy `Gramps’ Morgan and Peter Morgan, Buju Banton, Salif Keita, Alpha Blondie, Osibisa, Lucky Dube, Amarh Pino and the Ozimzim Band and naturally the great Bob Marley.
In 2007, Ras Minano produced and recorded The Hope of Africa Band album `Jah Spirit’ at Crack Studios Accra Ghana under the label of The Hope of Africa Productions highlighting the Roots Reggae, Afro Reggae, Funk and Afro beats sounds the Hope of Africa Band is renowned for.
The album Jah Spirit was launched in 2009 at The Acoma Village Accra to an ecstatic audience. In 2010, the band launched Jah Spirit at The Homowo Festival 2010 and in the same year, performed Jah Spirit live on both TV Africa and TV3 television. The second album `Africa is Sick’ was produced and recorded in 2013. Ras third album titled Real Rasta was released in Australia May 25th 2020 in celebration of African Union Day.
Internationally acclaimed, Ras Minano has performed around the globe touring throughout West Africa, England, Europe and Australia where he now resides. His journey of creativity, inspiration and music has awarded him many successes further establishing his impetus of Hope for Humanity.
In 2015 The Hope of Africa Band was invited to perform at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Ras brought with him fellow band member Angel Lopa and together they performed primarily as a duo throughout the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Angel later married leaving the band in 2017.
The Hope of Africa Band now performs with a line-up of talented Adelaide based musicians and the message of hope continues.
The Hope of Africa Band performed at The Adelaide Fringe Festival 2016, Playing For Change Day Concert Adelaide 2017. In 2018 Adelaide Fringe Festival, The Hope of Africa Band launched its Nkabom (Unity) Tour.
Lead singer, Ras Minano passionately shares his culture and messages of Hope for Humanity wherever possible and at Adelaide and interstate events including Africa Unmasked Festival Adelaide, Umbrella Winter City Sounds Music Festival Adelaide, A Wild Night in Australia, Prospect Spring Fair Adelaide, Australian Academy of Rock, Harmony Day Celebrations, Welcome to Australia Walk Together Rally and Africa Union Day events held at Uni SA City East and City West Campus’ and The University of Adelaide.
The band also performs regularly at private functions, local hotels, clubs, pubs and venues.
In 2017 Ras Minano together with world music impresario Chi Thapa from the Band `Ah Hum’, founded The Adelaide Afrobeat Collective. This high energy 10 piece ensembles inspired by Afrobeat master Fela Kuti, is a vibrant mix of exceptional young musicians, intense West African drumming and funky thought provoking tunes. As the bands lead singer, Ras serves up an incredible performance with a stage presence that is powerful, provocative and captivating. Ras gives the audience a tantalizing and absolutely infectious performance every time.
